On Monday, April 18th the Waldwick American Legion Post 57 held a meeting of the local high school junior boys who will be attending American Legion New Jersey Boys State at Rider University this June. The purpose of the meeting was to further get to know the boys being sponsored by Post 57 . The post members conducting the interview were Miquel Granda (US Navy), John Grisoni (US Air Force), and Kevin O’Hora (US Marine Corps). The boys being interviewed for sponsorship were Charles Perruzzi (Northern Highlands Regional HS), Jacob Bae (Glen Rock HS), Markus Kim (Bergen Catholic ), Mike Bukosky (Northern Highlands Reg HS), Ryan Monagle (Northern Highlands Reg HS), Jason Singh (Bergen County Technical HS), Zev Dewan (Ramsey HS), Eric Woo (Fort Lee HS). Present also was one of our delegates from last year, Owen Roy of Northern Highlands. Owen briefed the boys as to what to expect at Boys State. It should be noted that Owen will enter the United States Military Academy at West Point as a cadet this year.
All of the boys presented impressive resumes with GPA above 3.5, sports involvement, club involvement, and demonstration of community service. They came at the recommendation of their school faculties. Their SAT scores ranged from 1300 to 1500 combined verbal and math. All indicated a desire to serve our nation in either the military or civilian roles.
Several of the boys are co-sponsored by our local businesses and organizations. These generous sponsors were Lakeland Bank, the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce, Morristown Movers, Waldwick Pistol Club, Waldwick American Legion Post 57, Waldwick VFW Post 1049 and others who contributed to our outreach programs during the year.
The officers and members of Post 57 are very proud of our selection of delegates to Boys State this year. We wish them the best.
