Walter Tunis Nightengale was born on August 11, 1895, the son of Tunis and Anna Nightengale. He had two sisters, Loretta and Alice.
He worked as the Erie Railroad station agent at Waldwick, NJ. He was called for government service on February 23, 1918, when he was sent to Camp Dix as a member of Company C, 303rd Field Signal Battalion, going overseas as a Corporal after six weeks’ training. He died in a hospital in France, November 1, 1918, of pneumonia.
He is buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France; Plot F, Row 21, Grave 27.
